Image Description

Conception Bay just a few miles south of Mulege

Conception Bay”  in English, this fifteen-mile-long bay whose northern opening is a few miles south of Mulege, extends southward toward Loreto and is a haven for campers and boaters who have traditionally made use of its numerous coves, sandy beaches, snorkeling waters and protected anchorages.   Highway One runs along its western shoreline, and the traveler looks across the bay at the peninsula that defines it and sees the peninsula’s shoreline and rocky silhouette in a condition very close to what it looked like four hundred years ago.

Along the highway there are both undeveloped coves and a few with homes, beachside eating places, shacks and palapa sunshades – and several areas where rustic subdivisions have been created including a particularly nice one called Punta Suenos, which is represented by Costa Loreto’s exclusive agents, Mision Loreto Properties.   The coves are shallow and the water is warm, inviting the casual swimmer.   In many places nearby rocky parts of the shoreline offer fascinating snorkeling.  Sailboats and power boats anchor  and spend from a few hours to a few weeks, under the constant Baja Sur sun.
